The Arteries of the Upper and Lower Extremities

The Arteries of the Upper and Lower Extremities

This six-week course introduces the generalist sonographer to vascular sonography of the peripheral arteries of the upper and lower extremities. At the end of this course, students will be able to explain the examination procedures and associated pathologies for the innominate, subclavian, axillary, brachial, forearm, iliac, femoral, popliteal, and calf arteries. The examination techniques will include 2D and pulsed wave Doppler measurement and assessments in real time, pulsed wave Doppler, and colour Doppler. Students attending the hands-on portion will perform these examination techniques under the supervision of a registered vascular sonographer.

The Instrumentation Refresher course is recommended as a prerequisite to review and refresh Doppler theory.
