Sonography of the Extra- and Intracranial Arteries

This six-week course introduces the generalist sonographer to vascular sonography of the arteries of the neck. At the end of this course, students will be able to explain the examination procedures and associated pathologies for the common, internal, and external carotid arteries, the vertebral, subclavian, and intracranial arteries. The examination techniques will include 2D and pulsed wave Doppler measurements and assessments in real time, pulsed wave Doppler, and colour Doppler. Students attending the hands-on portion will perform these examination techniques under the supervision of a registered vascular sonographer.

The Instrumentation Refresher course is recommended as a prerequisite to review and refresh Doppler theory.
